I received 12 hatching eggs via a visitor in the late 1990s, who had obtained them from Mr. Berland in the Bergen metro area. Three cockerels and six pullets hatched and were put in three breeding pens, and from those I sent eggs and chicks to friends in Wisconsin and North Carolina.
Old age and declining health have necessitated a gradual cutback in my animal husbandry over the past 10 years, and I now have only an old small (hopelessly inbred) breeding group left, along with a few rare varieties of Leghorns and a trio of Welsummers.
When people ask if I can sell hatching eggs off my Jaers, I tell them that I really don’t have any worthwhile breeding material because of the high level of inbreeding.
The import regulations for hatching eggs/live birds are extremely strict, but if there are certified clean flocks around I would be happy to entertain the idea of importing some hatching eggs in order to re-establish the breed here in the US with more vigor than ones I started out with.
